Following Eid al-Fitr prayers on Friday, angry demonstrators marched in Tehran to condemn the Islamophobic decision by reverend Terry Jones.
The demonstrators shouted slogans against the US and Israel, urging Muslim unity to prevent the desecration of other Islamic sanctities by Zionists.
The protesters carried placards and banners displaying messages of respect for all prophets and saying that they would respond to the violation of Islamic sanctities by the Zionists through showing respect for the prophets.
The development came after head of a small church in Florida, Pastor Terry Jones, announced plans to torch copies of the Quran on September 11 to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Jones' plan has drawn worldwide condemnation. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has hit out at the Dove World Outreach Center's plan, stressing that it is "disrespectful and disgraceful."
The US State Department also called the move "un-American," while the US Attorney General Eric Holder called the idea "idiotic and dangerous."
EU Foreign Affairs Chief Catherine Ashton condemned the planned act, while Arab League Chief Amr Mussa dubbed Jones a "fanatic".
The Vatican council has blasted the Florida church's scheme as "deplorable acts of violence."
Many Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Indonesia have already held massive demonstrations against the US church's intent.
